All teachers should feel safe and confident in the workplace. Unfortunately, bullying is not something that occurs only among students. Bullying in the workplace is an unacceptable and all too common occurrence, even for teachers. Sadly this was the case for one of our teachers, she had been working at a school where bullying was rife which led to a toxic work environment.
The bullies had made allegations about the member that were untrue, she attempted to approach administration and the deputy principal to refute the claims, but they refused to deal with the issue. It’s a heart-breaking feeling when your workplace doesn't have your back, or doesn't take you seriously. It can be very lonely. But as a member of the TPAN you’re never alone, we always have your back.
Feeling unsupported and trapped, the member turned to TPAN for help.
A case manager was assigned to the case and worked closely with the member to challenge the allegations with the Principal.
With the guidance and expertise of the case manager, the false allegations were dropped, and our member received a fast-tracked transfer to another school they had been wishing to go to.
She was thrilled with the outcome and grateful for the support she received from TPAN, and to be able to move on from a toxic workplace.
Workplace bullying is unacceptable, victims do not have to suffer in silence. Seeking support and assistance from TPAN can make a real difference.
By taking action, we can help create safe and respectful work environments for all.
Why is the TPAN different? We believe that real change in education STARTS with empowering teachers, not bureaucrats.
