Navigating employment issues can be a daunting task, especially when you're in a foreign country and have limited resources.
This was the case for a TPAN member who was terminated from her employment whilst experiencing passport issues, resulting in her being stuck overseas whilst on annual leave.
She had kept her employer informed of the issues and was hopeful to return as soon as possible. However, her employer advised her that they could not hold her position and had hired a replacement, leaving her with only the option of working as a casual.
Feeling lost and unfairly treated, she reached out to TPAN for assistance.
One of our case managers investigated the details and negotiated with the employer for the reinstatement of her original role.
After several discussions, the employer agreed to withdraw the termination and reinstate the member as per her original contract, allowing our member to return to her job as a full-time employee!
Our member was thrilled with the outcome.
This was a significant victory, as it not only ensured her job security, but also reinforced the importance of fair treatment of employees.
Losing a job due to uncontrollable circumstances can be a challenging experience, but it's reassuring to know that unions like TPAN are there to advocate for their members and fight for their rights.
Why is the TPAN different? We believe that real change in education STARTS with empowering teachers, not bureaucrats.
